BN’s South West region events coordinator, Keith Bowman, writes: ‘Can you imagine it? It’s a bright, sunny, warm evening. You have a glass of wine or cuppa in your hand. Snacks are available if you feel peckish. You’re sitting back just watching the world go by as you cruise the waters NAKED! Does that sound good, or what?’ Keith has organised two cruises for June, the first a three-hour trip on Friday 13 around Plymouth Sound and the river Lynher, followed by another around Poole Harbour on

South Yorkshire Naturists (SYN) have secured for a second year a booking at the wonderful Helmsley Open Air Heated Swimming Pool, North Yorkshire, for a Great British Skinny Dip, on 14 June, writes John Oliver. The Helmsley Open Air Heated Swimming Pool was opened in 1969 and has served the locality since, typically throughout the summer months. It is in a delightful spot and private, away from town up a lane, surrounded by fencing, not overlooked and ideally suited for a Naturist swim. SYN have

Now in its 10th year, I'm sure everyone is familiar with British Naturism's outreach project The Great British Skinny Dip! We always make a big splash (pardon the pun) in the media with this fun event that captures the public's imagination and welcome many newcomers to swims up and down the country. Often journalists ask 'When's it on?', expecting there to be a one-off dedicated date for costume-free swimming but a Great British Skinny Dip can take place at any time across the whole year, whenev

'Can you help Shaftesbury Lido?', we asked back in February. Well you (and others) did! Shaftesbury Lido is over 100 years old and the town council have been hosting their own nude swims since 2023. A lot of pools never survived lockdown so a council-run pool supportive of Naturism is something to cherish. They wanted to fund a new filtration system and a new pool liner, and launched the crowdfunding scheme to help with the (huge) cost. The Friends of Shaftesbury Swimming have launched a crowdfu

As Mental Health Awareness Week draws to a close, it's the perfect time to reflect on some hopeful news: there is growing evidence that Naturism can significantly benefit mental health. Academic studies have shown that even short periods spent naked in the company of others can lead to improved body appreciation and reduced social anxiety. Those who participate in Naturism regularly report long-term improvements in body image, greater self-acceptance, and higher self-esteem. Why does it work? B
Naturism is ... Liberating!
"The thought of nudity is scarier than nudity itself"
When you shed your clothes you also shed just a few of the burdens of everyday life.
The feeling of liberation, discovery and freedom is something that you cannot describe.
... Healthy
Our skin benefits from exposure to light and air.
A 2015 survey proved that Naturists have higher self-esteem and better body confidence.
... Friendly
Naturism is great for single people as well as families and children alike – it’s an activity that all the family can do together.
Naturist children are happy, well-adjusted and safe; they grow up with a better understanding of what will happen to their bodies and enjoy a relaxed, outdoor life.
... Active
Holidays, Beaches, Clubs, Swims, Walking, Sporting, Camping and 'Glamping' (and why not!)
Things to do – you’ll wonder how you did without us - come to an event, find your nearest club or swim, go on a Naturist holiday (including group holidays just for BN Members), get involved with the British Naturism members’ online community, and sign up for free newsletters.
... Legal!
We know you were wondering!
There is no offence of 'nudity' in UK law otherwise we wouldn't be here and thousands of people wouldn't cycle naked through our towns and cities each year. But the law can be confusing and some people incorrectly assume that simple nudity can be harmful - especially to children.
Here at BN we campaign to improve the understanding of the law and challenge misconceptions about social nudity.
