Collision and foundering of the Ayr (19th century)


The steam boat Ayr was lost in collision on a voyage to Glasgow, less than 200 yards from shore, in 20 fathoms of water, with 70 passengers and crew drowned.

She carried a lot of money to purchase for a local fair.

All  attempts of salvage failed...
