The East Indiaman Briton went down in deep water after striking a reef at Fernando Norunha, Brazil. 400 Passengers and crew were saved but only 12 chests of silver dollars out of 160 could be taken off the ship.

A possible 13 tons of silver coins could be lost with the ship.
