Total loss by fire of the Herald (19th century)
She was a few miles from Huntingdon when the Herald was destroyed by fire in Long Island sound, on her way from New York. There was a lot of passengers on board, 100 were lost in the disaster and only 3 saved.
She was also carrying a sum of US$ 60.000 in specie.
