Another collision and foundering of the Samson (19th century)

 

The Samson was on a voyage from Genoa to Marseilles and was lost by collision 3 leagues from Antibes. She foundered in less than 10 minutes

200 passengers from which many of nobility with their riches were on board. A Princess with her servants lost their lives and amongst the saved was the son of Sir Robert Peel (English Prime Minister).

Sent from Genoa, a sum of 70.000 francs was lost with the ship.
