2009 Battle of the Atlantic Expedition
During the summer of 2009, an underwater archaeological survey was performed on the HMT Bedfordshire, a converted British trawler sunk in 1942 by the German U-558 during the Battle of the Atlantic in WWII. The expedition was led by NOAA's Monitor National Marine Sanctuary and archaeologists and scientific divers from East Carolina University, Mineral Management Service, UNC Coastal Studies Institute, and the Georgia Aquarium assisted in the documentation and mapping of the site
